Ṛgveda 10.191 is the last hymn of the Ṛgveda. It is known as the Saṃjñāna Sūkta, the hymn of concord or unity, and is often recited under the name Aikyamatya Sūkta. Its first verse is addressed to Agni, who gathers all things together; the three verses that follow are a call to people to be united — to walk together, speak together and be of one mind, with a common purpose, common hearts and a common counsel. Its second verse, saṃ gacchadhvaṃ saṃ vadadhvaṃ saṃ vo manāṃsi jānatām, is one of the most widely quoted lines of the Veda and is recited at weddings, at the opening of gatherings and in schools. That the whole Ṛgveda ends on a prayer for agreement among people has often been remarked on. These are among the oldest hymns in any Indo-European language, and their language is often archaic; where scholars and traditional commentators read a word differently, the meaning here says so briefly. 4 verses, the complete sūkta.

Ṛgveda 10.191, complete (4 verses). The Sanskrit follows Sanskrit Wikisource, १९१, a public-domain text. It has been checked verse by verse against Theodor Aufrecht's edition of the Ṛgveda (Bonn, 1877; public domain) as entered in GRETIL, and agrees with it in every verse. The Ṛgveda is chanted with pitch accents (svaras); they are not shown here — the text is given unaccented, as in the source, and it is not presented as an accented Vedic text. The English and Hindi introductions above are original writing by AdiVeda; they give context and summary, not a translation of the Sanskrit and not a traditional commentary.

१९१ · Ṛgveda 10.191 — The Hymn of Concord
saṃsamidyuvase vṛṣannagne viśvānyarya ā,
iḻaspade samidhyase sa no vasūnyā bhara || 1 ||
Samsamidyuvase vrishannagne vishvaanyarya aa, ilaspade samidhyase sa no vasuunyaa bhara || 1 ||
O mighty Agni, lord, you gather together all things that belong to the faithful. You are kindled in the place of Iḷā; bring us riches.
saṃ gacchadhvaṃ saṃ vadadhvaṃ saṃ vo manāṃsi jānatām,
devā bhāgaṃ yathā pūrve saṃjānānā upāsate || 2 ||
Sam gachchhadhvam sam vadadhvam sam vo manaamsi jaanataam, devaa bhaagam yathaa puurve samjaanaanaa upaasate || 2 ||
Come together, speak together; let your minds be of one understanding — as the gods of old, of one mind, took their shares together.
samāno mantraḥ samitiḥ samānī samānaṃ manaḥ saha cittameṣām,
samānaṃ mantramabhi mantraye vaḥ samānena vo haviṣā juhomi || 3 ||
Samaano mantrah samitih samaanii samaanam manah saha chittameshaam, samaanam mantramabhi mantraye vah samaanena vo havishaa juhomi || 3 ||
Common be their counsel, common their assembly, common their mind, and their thoughts united. I give you a common counsel to follow; I offer for you with a common oblation.
samānī va ākūtiḥ samānā hṛdayāni vaḥ,
samānamastu vo mano yathā vaḥ susahāsati || 4 ||
Samaanii va aakuutih samaanaa hridayaani vah, samaanamastu vo mano yathaa vah susahaasati || 4 ||
Common be your purpose, common your hearts; common be your mind — so that you may live well together.
