Navarna Mantra

From the Durgasaptashati (Markandeya Purana); the Sarva Mangala shloka is from the Devi Mahatmya.

The central mantra of Shakta worship, used in all Devi puja and in the recitation of the Durgasaptashati. The nine syllables (Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundayai Vicche) invoke the triple power of Mahasaraswati, Mahalakshmi, and Mahakali in the form of Chamunda. Recited at the beginning and end of each chapter of the Durgasaptashati.

नवार्ण मन्त्र — The Nine-Syllable Mantra

ॐ ऐं (सरस्वती) ह्रीं (महामाया) क्लीं (कमला) — चामुण्डा (देवी) को, विच्चे — दुर्गा का नवार्ण (नौ-अक्षरी) मन्त्र।

Om — Aim (Saraswati) — Hreem (Mahamaya) — Kleem (Kamala) — to Chamunda (Devi) — Vicche (invocation). The nine-syllable mantra of the Devi, drawn from the opening of the Durgasaptashati.
