When is Holi in 2026, 2027 and the following years?

Holi (Dhulandi, the day of colours) falls on 2026: Wednesday, 4 March 2026; 2027: Tuesday, 23 March 2027; 2028: Saturday, 11 March 2028; 2029: Thursday, 1 March 2029; 2030: Wednesday, 20 March 2030; Holika Dahan is the evening before. In 2027 the Central Government list gives Holi on 23 March, while the New Delhi panchang gives 22 March.

When are Navratri and Dussehra?

Sharad Navratri begins on 2026: Sunday, 11 October 2026; 2027: Thursday, 30 September 2027; 2028: Tuesday, 19 September 2028; 2029: Monday, 8 October 2029; 2030: Saturday, 28 September 2030. How many Central Government holidays are there in 2026 and 2027?

The Central Government lists 17 gazetted (closed) holidays and 33 restricted holidays for 2026, and 17 gazetted and 32 restricted holidays for 2027, for its administrative offices in Delhi/New Delhi. Employees may take two restricted holidays a year. States publish their own lists.

What is the difference between a gazetted and a restricted holiday?

A gazetted (closed) holiday is a day off for all Central Government offices. A restricted holiday is optional: employees pick a limited number from the restricted list. Private employers and states follow their own lists.

Why can a festival fall on different dates in different calendars?

Hindu festivals follow the lunar tithi, which begins and ends at any hour. Each festival is tied to a time of day (sunrise, midday, evening or midnight), so the date depends on where that time falls and on the place’s sunrise. Regional traditions also differ, so a festival can be a day apart between calendars and cities. The dates here follow the New Delhi panchang.

Where do these dates come from?

Government holidays for 2026 and 2027 are from the Department of Personnel and Training office memoranda of 3 July 2025 and 16 July 2026. Festival and vrat dates are calculated from sunrise, tithi and nakshatra for New Delhi and were checked against a published panchang for every year from 2026 to 2030. For 2028–2030 the holidays the Government lists every year are shown as expected until the official lists are published.
